STRUNK G3 (Military Badged)

Here is a relic of a chainsaw.  Made in 1960 to military specifications.  These include a water proof spark plug and plug wire.  The points and condensers are still open to the elements like all other such ignitions.  Besides the water resistant type ignition components and paint, the most notable part of the saw is the cool Military badge on the clutch cover.  It is filled out with most major information but not complete.  With the limited information I have gathered or heard about these Strunk models (the G3 being the direct drive and the G4 being gear driven) they never got the Military contract.  I would be curious to see how these were sold or distributed out.

Mechanically speaking these are simple reed port 2 stroke saws to work on, like any other Strunk or Clinton style saw of that period.  Running them to say the least is a hand numbing experience.  To run one without a flat head screw drive, 5/16" and 7/16" wrench is only asking for trouble.  Looking at the fasteners that are on there, I was surprised after running it they aren't all fitted with lock washers or lock nuts.  She was a rumbly shaky girl that without the constant maintenance of checking all hardware you would need to have spares readily available.

A cool saw to look at and run goes without saying, but to be stuck behind the controls and expected to produce with it would have been a chore.
